PEO SERVICES
What is a Professional Employer Organization?
Professional employer organizations (PEOs) enable clients to cost-effectively outsource the management of human resources, employee benefits, payroll and workers' compensation. PEO clients focus on their core competencies to maintain and grow their bottom line.
Businesses today need help managing increasingly complex employee related matters such as health benefits, workers' compensation claims, payroll, payroll tax compliance, and unemployment insurance claims. They contract with a PEO to assume these responsibilities and provide expertise in human resources management. This allows the PEO client to concentrate on the operational and revenue-producing side of its operations.
A PEO provides integrated services to effectively manage critical human resource responsibilities and employer risks for clients. A PEO delivers these services by establishing and maintaining an employer relationship with the employees at the client's worksite and by contractually assuming certain employer rights, responsibilities and risk.
Whether you have one employee of 500 employees, we have the right choice for you.

WORKERS COMPENSATION INSURANCE
Workers' compensation is a mandatory type of business insurance that provides employees who become injured or ill while on the job with medical coverage and income replacement. It also protects companies from being sued by employees for the workplace conditions that caused such an injury or illness.
Workers' comp coverage provides four types of benefits (medical care, death, disability, rehabilitation) for employee job-related injuries or diseases as a matter of right (without regard to fault). This insurance is usually purchased by the employer from an insurance company, although in a few states there are monopolistic state funds through which the insurance must be purchased. The premium rate is based on a percentage of the employer's payroll and varies according to the employee's occupation.
PROPERTY INSURANCE
Property Insurance covers losses to your building and business property. You can choose the Standard Form ("named perils"), which covers losses from perils listed in the policy. If you'd like broader coverage — at a higher premium — the Special Form ("all risk") covers losses from all causes unless the policy specifically excludes them. Property coverage includes your building and premises, permanently installed machinery and equipment (heating and air conditioning equipment, etc.), and business personal property (furniture, business stock, and property stored off premises).
You'll also have coverage against losses from crime (theft, forgery, counterfeiting, etc.) and for income lost when your business can't operate at full strength (Business Interruption).
GENERAL LIABILITY INSURANCE
General liability insurance helps protect your assets by providing a first line of defense against a variety of claims for alleged negligence or wrongdoing. In today's lawsuit-happy society, litigation can wreak havoc with any business — including yours.
By covering the cost of defending or settling these claims, a business general liability insurance policy can help you keep your business in business.
What does a typical General Liability Insurance policy cover?
Liability: Liability Insurance covers five basic categories of business liability:
- Bodily Injury — physical harm to a person at your place of business, or an injury caused by your employee at a client's site
- Completed Operations/Products Liability — losses after your business has completed work for a customer (such as repairing appliances or installing plumbing), or from manufacturing and distributing products.
- Personal Injury — damage to the reputation or rights of a person or business due to slander, libel, copyright infringement, invasion or privacy, false arrest, wrongful eviction, etc.
- Advertising Injury — losses caused by your advertising (spoken or written); for example, an ad that trashes a competitor.
- Independent Contractors Liability Insurance — damage from the acts of an independent contractor hired by your business.
Medical Payments: Pays the medical expenses of a person injured on your premises (a customer, client, visitor, or even a trespasser) up to a stated amount, regardless of fault — as a goodwill gesture to prevent lawsuits.
Damages Covered
Your Business Liability Insurance will pay three types of damages:
- Compensatory damages —financial losses of the claimant, plus additional monetary losses resulting from the claim.
- General damages — for intangible losses ("pain and suffering." "mental anguish," etc.)
- Punitive damages — penalties against your business for committing a wrongful act.
Exclusions
Although General Liability insurance provides a wide range of protection for your business, it won't pay liability claims related to these areas (which you can cover with other policies):
- On-the-job injuries to employees (Workers Compensation Insurance);
- Operating autos or trucks in your business (Business Auto Policy);
- Performing, or failing to perform, professional services (Professional Liability/Errors & Omissions);
- Acts as a corporate director or officer (Directors & Officers Policy);
- Pollution (Environmental Liability Insurance);
- Damage to property of others in the care, custody and control of your business — for example, an electronic repair shop storing customers' televisions (Baillee's Customer Floater); and
- Products, such as food items or toys, subject to recall. General Liability Insurance also excludes coverage for losses related to war, terrorism, or nuclear events.
GROUP HEALTH INSURANCE
Save on Employee Benefits
Many employers are told by their agent that their health insurance rates will be the same no matter who their agent is. Nothing could be further from the truth!
Is Your Agent Getting You the Best Deal?
Health insurance rates can vary dramatically, based on the agency’s industry clout, carrier relationships and negotiating skills.
There really is a difference from one agency to another. Before you call Unity, ask yourself, "How much money has my benefits agent saved me lately?"
