A PEO is a Professional Employer Organization that provides one stop services for business owners. A PEO’s service offers Payroll, Human Resources, Safety and Risk Management and Employee Benefits.
Because of a co-employment relationship, the PEO becomes the legal "employer of record" for employment purposes and assumes many of the responsibilities and liabilities present in many businesses.
The Employees on a PEO’s payroll are covered under the PEO’s workers compensation policy which may offer better cash flow and reduced cost to the client because of the PEO’s economies of scale. The employees may qualify for participation on health insurance, retirement and supplemental benefits. A PEO’s services remove the day to day burdens of being an employer and allow the business owner to concentrate on running their business while maintaining control of their daily operations.
